CRIME ALERT
2011-007


The University Of Southern California Department of Public Safety is providing this notice of a criminal incident that occurred in our community in order to provide information that may help in avoiding a similar crime or provide information to solve this crime. This notice is also intended to meet the requirements of the "Timely Notice" provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistic Act of 1998.

Sexual Battery

DATE & TIME OF OCCURRENCE: July 2, 2011 at approximately 1pm

LOCATION: 2600 Block of Portland Street. (Off Campus)

REPORTED OFFENSE Complainant reports that the suspect approached her and grabbed her around her waist, then picked her up into a hug. Complainant pulled away from the suspect and the suspect grabbed her buttocks and vagina, and then fled.

SUSPECT DESCRIPTION (provided by complainant):
Suspect #1 Male Hispanic, 5 foot 6 inches to 5 foot 8 inches tall, 30 to 35 years old, black short sleeve shirt, tan long shorts.

SUSPECT VEHICLE:
None seen

* Always walk on busy streets - Avoid walking alone. Use Campus Cruiser (213)740-4911.
* Avoid using cell phones or MP3 players while walking - Suspects target phones and other items in plain view.
* Do not carry expensive purses or bags. Conceal them inside of a larger bag.
* In the event of an assault, stay calm and comply with the suspect's demands.
* After the assault, call DPS right away. The first 2 minutes after a crime occurs are critical to law enforcement.
* If you observe a crime in progress, STAY CALM AND CALL DPS (213)740-4321.
* BE A GOOD WITNESS. Describe exactly what you observed with as many details as possible. Give complete descriptions such as sex, race, age, height, weight, hair color, clothing, tattoos, scars. Try to get the license plate if a vehicle is involved.
